Okay... where to start?
This is the first in a line of plague hounds that I've been hit with inspiration for. His name is Bubonic and essentially my plague hounds are like the monsters in fairy tales with their own mythology behind them.
The Bubonic Plague Hound: A creature approximately the size of a large wolf, Bubonic appears at a distance like a malnourished dog. An excellent actor, he will hunch his haunches, bring his tail between his legs, and let out horrible cries to drawn upon the pity of onlookers and hopefully lure them close enough- for should they catch sight of his unnatural, grinning visage they will know that he is certainly not what he seems.
Like his name suggests, Bubonic is the living embodiment of the Black Death. His preference of attack is the face of his victims, enticing out gouts of blood through which the plague will travel, from brain to heart and into the rest of the blood stream. If he cannot kill you the first time he finds you, however, he is patient enough to sniff out the effects of his bite later- dead or alive, the state of the body matters not to him.
What others do not know is that Bubonic is actually a sentient creature who views humans with a vague disinterest, taking company instead in the rats and crows that follow in his wake. Sighting one of his crows is usually a bad omen- for more often than not he will be prowling nearby, grinning with mad humor as he observes from afar the witch and Jew burnings, the pitiful pleas to God and self-flagellation- all examples of the impact his presence incites from the panicked masses.
